In February 2009, Energía Austral launched a programme of Social Investment Funds targeting organisations and neighbourhood associations in the Aysén municipal district, with the aim of promoting organised community participation in the design and implementation of projects of different types for the common benefit. These funds have supported the development of sports, social, educational, environmental and cultural community projects while also helping to foster neighbourhood participation. 

In 2009, funding was awarded to 62 community projects while, in 2010, support was provided for 44 community development initiatives, 56 sports promotion projects and 72 educational initiatives. 

For 2011, Energía Austral has allocated a total of 100 million Chilean pesos with which to support initiatives in four areas: infrastructure, equipment, education and training, and events and diffusion, with an upper limit of 3 million pesos per initiative.
