In August 2009, Energía Austral submitted the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the Cuervo Hydroelectric Plant Project to the Environmental Impact Evaluation System (SEIA) at the Aysén Region office of the National Commission for the Environment (CONAMA).
During this process, Energía Austral responded to four rounds of observations and queries from the different government services with responsibility for environmental matters during which it provided complementary information and clarified the measures mitigate and compensate for the project’s impacts.
Energía Austral has received approval from the Aysén Region’s Environmental Evaluation Commission for the development of the Cuervo hydroelectric plant following a rigorous environmental evaluation process on may, 2012.
In parallel, Energía Austral is working on the environmental processes for the Blanco and Cóndor projects under the coordination of Knight Piésold in the case of the former and Golder Associates for the latter.
Meanwhile, the transmission project is at the feasibility stage. The corresponding studies are being prepared by Transelec, Chile’s leading transmission company.
For further information about Energía Austral’s environmental process, the project’s description sheet and other documents are available online at www.sea.gob.cl, the website of the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA).
