In line with the principle of excellence in its projects and as in the case of the Cuervo and Blanco plants, Energía Austral has designed the Cóndor plant taking into account the particular conditions of the Aysén Region as regards its geography, the environment and its inhabitants and communities.
In order not to affect public transport in the Region, the project will have a private system of transport for its workers as well as materials and inputs, using a network of roads that will be built by Energía Austral and sea routes.
Since there is, at present, no overland access to the area of the project, Energía Austral also plans to build a ramp, an esplanade for mid-sized boats and a manoeuvring area in the Bahía Candelaria sector.
For the Cóndor plant’s construction stage, a series of support installations will be built such as the camp area located in the machine house sector that, as in the case of the Cuervo and Blanco projects, will be equipped with all the facilities required so as not to disrupt existing activities and services.
One of the most important aspects of the operational phase of the Cóndor project is management of its reservoir. During Cóndor’s operation, a maximum drop of 2 metres/month in its level will be permitted, thereby minimising the effect on the flora and fauna on its banks.
The project also envisages an ecological flow of 5 m3/second, which will ensure a sufficient flow of water to maintain natural environmental conditions downriver from the dams.
