Construction and Operation Standards

Energía Austral has in place a sustainability policy for all the stages of its project. One of the initiative’s key environmental aspects is the restricted regulation of the Cuervo plant’s future reservoir.

his means that the project will seek to maintain the pattern of natural variations in the level of the reservoir in order to favour the establishment of flora and fauna on the new banks that will be created once it is filled.

The principal operational restrictions established voluntarily by Energía Austral for the reservoir’s management are:

  • The reservoir’s normal lower operating limit will be 521 metres above sea level (masl).
  • Its normal upper operating limit will be 526 masl and, when its level surpasses this limit, the excess water will channelled off through its evacuator system.
  • The drop in the reservoir level as a result of water use for generation will be capped at an average of 80 cm/month and 15 cm/day.
