Private Protected Natural Area

Energía Austral is committed to providing new attractions for nature tourism in the Aysén Region. The design of its plants includes the creation and equipment of important new attractions for the local community as well as visitors in places that are not, at present, accessible by road.

It has undertaken to create a new 6,645-hectare Private Protected Natural Area around the Cuervo plant with the aim of protecting and maintaining the area’s ecosystems, biodiversity and natural resources as well as enhancing its attractions and providing a new destination for nature tourism. It will include trekking trails, viewpoints and services for visitors in order to provide a new high-quality alternative for nature tourism in the Aysén municipal district.

Science is another key focus of the project and the Protected Natural Area will provide opportunities for scientific research, which Energía Austral is eager to foster and develop, as well as promoting other educational, ecotourism and recreational activities that are compatible with the area’s conservation objectives and whose main users will be the local community.

Energía Austral also seeks to work in alliance with the different players in the district’s tourism industry for the joint design of the proper management of these new attractions and their incorporation into regional circuits. In addition and in line with the importance of tourism for the Region and its sustainable development, Energía Austral will support programmes to strengthen the sector and local businesses.

Since 2009 Energía Austral has had in place a Programme of Educational Tours in Tourism which seeks to improve opportunities for young people taking tourism courses at the Liceo A-1 school in Puerto Aysén through greater familiarity with local tourist attractions and permanent contact with businesses.
