More jobs for the Region
At present, Energía Austral provides 357 jobs, including contractors as well as its own employees. This represents an increase of around 100 on the average for 2009. Thirty-six percent of its own employees and 46% of contractors’ employees live in the Aysén Region.
For its construction, the project will hire an estimated 600 to 800 local people while, for its operation, some 150 people are expected to be hired from the Aysén Region.
It is estimated that the project’s forestry compensation plan will alone create some 100 jobs for a period of approximately 20 years.
Energía Austral’s commitment to the Region also means that it will seek to enhance the employability of its inhabitants, principally through the Programme of Labour Training for the community, which it is developing in conjunction with the INACAP training institute in order to provide both technical training and skill certification for people with years of experience in their particular trade. Since 2007, the Programme has offered over 14 courses in different areas of specialisation, training more than 260 people in the Aysén municipal district.
